New Year's Stew - Leadership SHIFT Tip

The doubters will let you know that New Year’s resolutions are hopeless. 92% of them fail — so why bother putting them into your success recipe? To be honest, that’s what I thought the last few years until I went to a wedding that shifted my perspective.

The rabbi spoke about how faith is the courage to move forward despite the low probability of success. He asked, “Considering they had enough oil for one day, why isn’t Hannukah a seven day holiday instead of eight?” His answer, “Because part of the miracle is in the courage to start.”

His answer helped to underscore that our most celebrated achievements happen when we still dance even though the odds are not with us.

So how should you approach next year?

If you want to set a resolution, then set one — don’t listen to the doubters. If you wish to label it as a goal or objective to make it more digestible, then do so. You can even come up with one word to anchor the year- harvest is my word in 2018.

So find a way to set your vision for a better year ahead and combine it with the mindset that success comes from a crockpot rather than a microwave approach. That your daily actions create the micro steps that lead to your macro leaps and delicious success over time. In other words, success is one cup daily hustle and one cup long-game patience.
