Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
During my corporate days, I would send a voicemail to my team wishing them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year before they shut it down for the year.
It was also a chance to invite them to pause and spend a few moments during their holiday break appreciating the year and thinking about their intentions for the new one.
My message was sent on the Northern Hemisphere’s Winter Solstice because it serves as a natural pause in the dance between darkness and light as we optimistically anticipate more sunlight to come.
“There can be no light without the dark…myself I try to live within the light.”
- Horace Slughorn (From Harry Potter)
Every Monday and Thursday this year, the Shift Tip has landed in your inbox requesting two to three minutes of your attention. Each one was an invitation to dance with a leadership, culture, mindset, or communication perspective.
Some of you read and commented on every post — others just a few. Sometimes you agreed — other posts left you shaking your head. In either case, I hope they gave you a chance to pause and reflect. Perhaps you even applied a pearl or two that helped you create a better tomorrow for yourself and those around you.
If only one person read the Shift Tip each week, I would still send it. But it’s so much better when so many of you do. Life is sweeter when we are riding together.
Thank you for being in my peloton.
Next week I’m taking a screen holiday and hitting pause to appreciate the wonder (and crazy) of 2017 and set my intentions for 2018.
I hope you will pause, dance, and reflect, as well.
We will come back in January ready to storm the castle.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
