Five Regrets - Leadership SHIFT Tip
Before my Last Bad Day, I was good at chasing happiness. I thought that if I purchased that fancy car or achieved that promotion, I would be happy. I would tell my wife, and myself, that, “It’s just busy right now, but once the sales meeting is over, things will settle down.”
And you know what? I felt happy when I pulled out of the Mercedes dealership with my new ride and work eased after the meeting was over.
But those vapor finish lines disappeared along with my happiness and left behind hope. Hope that if I kept chasing, I could catch it once and for all. But we all know that hope isn’t a strategy.
“When you chase happiness,
misery follows you.
When you follow wisdom,
joy finds you.”
– Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
A few years ago, I read Bronnie Ware’s book about The Five Regrets of the Dying. It gave me chills because on my Last Bad Day, and years before her book, I had felt all five.
- I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself.
- I wish I didn’t work so hard.
- I wish I had the courage to express my feelings.
- I wish that I had stayed in touch with my friends.
- I wish that I had let myself be happier.
So whether you are 22 or 42, the purpose of today’s Shift Tip is to inspire you to start pedaling. It doesn’t matter if it’s Bronnie’s book, my shift, or the inspiration is within you, find the courage to live today and go have fun storming the castle.
Because when you get there, you will find that you can still have that car, but without all the regrets. Click HERE to watch this week’s video Shift Tip.
I look forward to speaking with many of you on tonight’s webinar.
