Shift Tip: Who's in your Peloton?

Who’s In Your Peloton?

This week I had the opportunity to attend my first in-person event since March 8, 2020. It felt good to be in the energy of others and share a few hugs. The day reminded me of this poem by IN-Q.

Hug

When all is this is over

And now become then

I will never take another hug

For granted again.

I was with The Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association facilitating a moment of transition and gratitude while honoring President and CEO Laurie Cook. She is retiring after fifteen years, and Susan O’Conner is stepping into the role.

As the team shared their memories, you could feel the energy in the room. It felt like (warning – – cycling analogy forthcoming), a trusted, connected peloton.

Like any exceptional leader, what they discovered from Laurie, were lessons that reached well beyond work like grace, authenticity, and empathy. Laurie enabled them to create an environment that brought forth the best in them so they could bring out the best in others.

This week’s video is about your peloton and whether you are riding with those who bring out the best in you so you can slip on your maillot jaune.

Until next week, remember to Pause Breathe Reflect and have fun storming the castle – btw, it’s more fun when you do it as a peloton.

p.s., My surgery is on the 21st. I appreciate all the well wishes you have sent. I have full-gas confidence in my surgical and post-op peloton. It’s not going to be easy, but the most memorable Tours never are.
